How To: Onboarding Employees The Wolfgang Way

Wolfgang recently welcomed Shira, our new Sales Representative to the team. Bringing Shira on this past Monday had me reflecting on Wolfgang’s onboarding process for me, back in January. Here are a few tips for accepting new employees into the fold, making them feel welcome and rallying the team for the expansion.

1. First Things First

For Wolfgang, an employee’s credentials and past experience matter, but so does a cultural fit. When browsing resumes and interviewing, Wolfgang Managers consider the applicant’s skill sets along with whether the person would fit into the culture. Does the person have a sense of humour? Do they enjoy staying active? Are they open minded?

2. Show Them The Ropes, Organically

When new members are brought on, we carry on, business as usual. We host our morning Huddle to align on daily key goals and share good news; at Wolfgang we gradually introduce new employees to company norms as they occur rather than forcing the training unnaturally.

3. Social Media Features

A new employee is a great share to your company online accounts. I ensure to quickly add the member’s photo and biography to our Team page and introduce them to our customers via social media. We’re excited about the addition so our customers just might be too.

4.Break Out Sessions

Our Managing Director carries the majority of training, but he ensures that adequate breaks are taken from heavy amounts of content. He also brings in additional team members to train on various areas of the company. For example, I get to meet with new employees to discuss Wolfgang marketing tactics and answer any questions in regards to branding.

5. Team Lunches

One of my favourite parts about our culture here at Wolfgang are our team lunches. For me, it isn’t about the food (I’m a choosy eater!) but more about the opportunity to get out of the office and just relax with coworkers. Conversations are always different; they’re less numbers, more hiking expeditions, family and weekend plans. We always have a team lunch when bringing a newbie on board.
