Leveraging Digital: Social Media Marketing

The fourth edition of Wolfgang’s Leveraging Digital series features a discussion on the benefits of social media, creating a content calendar and the profiles we’re currently using.

When canvassing colleagues, almost everyone closely associates the phrase social media to Facebook, and, for good reason. Facebook was founded in 2004 and created a real shift to raising brand awareness and providing bettered customer service digitally. Since then numerous social media applications have taken flight, many gaining in popularity, while others drifted away.

Social media has become a must have, not a nice to have, for business marketing in today’s day and age. Whether your market is business to consumer or business to business, social media provides tremendous ROI. Moreover, Google’s algorithm for ranking websites for better SEO uses offsite social media efforts to increase rankings. If you need more evidence on the benefits of social media, take a look at a company with a satisfactory website; oftentimes if the company’s social media profiles are maintained and encouraging engagement, the profiles rank higher than the tangible (expensive) company website. Social media allows direct dialogue between consumers and companies; it removes the transparent wall between businesses and buyers. Social media allows users to provide meaningful feedback, realistic reviews and have their questions answered. Communicating with consumers lends itself to portraying the company as personable, as a comrade and as a choice for consumers wanting to align with a reputable brand. Plus, the word of mouth marketing from a company optimizing social media can’t be beat.

Here at Wolfgang we refuse to follow the “get and forget” social media policy and instead focus on quality over quantity. We put our efforts into LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Google+. We also post to YouTube periodically and have ensured that our My Business page is accurate with location details. Overall, the Wolfpack has found great success in the combination of profiles and posting to them as outlined in our content calendar. A content calendar, social media schedule or posting chart is a snapshot of which days are posted to per profile, and ideas around what to post and when. The calendar provides a great venue for brainstorming, pre-planning and ensuring social consistency.

Finally, here at Wolfgang we do utilize the automated posting tool Hootsuite, but only for office closures and holidays. We choose to remain social in our social media posting and practice real time discussions. And remember: Social media, like anything worthwhile, takes time and consistency to pay off.
