Designers of sports facilities strive to enhance the fan experience at athletic events by providing a venue that is attractive, clean, comfortable, and exciting. The public will rarely see many of the private spaces within a stadium or arena, such as team locker rooms. But fans do see and/or use concession stands, public restrooms, concourses, stairs, ramps, playing fields, scoreboards, and seating bowls.
A major design element of many of these facilities is the exposed structural steel that has been chosen to serve as an integral part of the overall architectural design. A striking design for the steel structure conveys an image that becomes the focal point of the facility in the eye and mind of the spectator.
